Anthem was built in 1998 by the Dell Webb Corporation as a large planned community project in the desert foothills of Phoenix's North Valley. Anthem is located adjacent to New River, and is approximately 34 miles north of downtown Phoenix. Anthem encompasses nearly 6,000 acres of land, thirty-six percent of which has been preserved as open space.
