Fountain Hills was designed a master planned community in 1970, after being part of part of one of the largest land and cattle holdings in Arizona. Today, Fountain Hills boasts an active lifestyle full of outdoor activities like hiking, biking, boating and golf.
Located on nearly 13,000 acres, Fountain Hills is surrounded by the McDowell Mountains and Scottsdale to the west, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation to the east, the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community to the south and the McDowell Mountain Regional Park to the north. Its population is around 26,000 and continues to grow.
The focal point of Fountain Hills is the fountain - one of the world's tallest man-made fountains - attracting thousands of visitors each year. At the top of every hour, the fountain sprays water hundreds of feet in the air creating a dynamic aquatic show.
Fountain Hills provides a wide range of living options, from townhomes and condos to large estate homes. The town also provides recreational, cultural and retirement programs that address the needs and lifestyles of active families as well as older adults. In its February 2009, BusinessWeek.com name Fountain Hills the "Best Affordable Suburb" in all of Arizona.
Fountain Hills Unified School District #98 has four schools. McDowell Mountain Elementary School for Kindergarten-2nd grade, Four Peaks Elementary School for grades 3-5, Fountain Hills Middle School for grades 6-8, and Fountain Hills High School for grades 9-12. There is also a Charter School that runs K-8th grade.
