Sun City was the first master planned retirement community in the United States and remains know for its active lifestyle for senior citizens. Sun City began as a partnership between builder Del Webb and cotton farmer J.G. Boswell who owned the land. It opened New Year's Day 1960 with a three-bedroom, two-bath house. Today it has more than 42,000 residents. Sun City deed restrictions require at least one resident per household be 55 years or older.
It encompasses 8,900 acres of which 1,200 are golf courses (eight total courses) and three country clubs, making it a "golfers" paradise. The electric golf cart is a favorite form of transportation. Additionally, there are seven recreation centers, two bowling centers and 350 clubs and civic organizations.
Real estate remains quite affordable. Residents have many options to choose from include single-family homes, duplexes, condos, independent living centers, assisted living facilities and apartment comples. Prcing depends on size, location (golf, lake, regular neighborhood), age and remodeling.
