Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa Readies to Open November 2016

Creative and Tranquil, Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa Readies to Open November 2016 had seen that something big was happening on the 23 acres in Paradise Valley that used to be home to Scottsdale Cottonwoods Resort & Suites! We were recently invited out to tour the completely new property that will be the debut of Hyatt’s prestigious and forward-thinking brand, Andaz. Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa is aiming to be open to the public on November 1, 2016.

The luxury lifestyle brand Andaz brings a global scale while retaining a local perspective. This new property combines the flavors, sights, sounds and beauty of the Sonoran Desert with an integrative artistic twist that also incorporates the unique art from the in-residence artists from Cattle Track Arts & Preservation Compound in Scottsdale. The beautiful desert oasis setting springs to life with majestic pine trees, cottonwoods, citrus trees and wildflowers set against the picturesque backdrop of the beloved Camelback Mountain.

“We are absolutely thrilled to prepare for the opening of this hotel and to introduce the Andaz brand to our Scottsdale community,” says Scott Mason, general manager of Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa. “This brand is all about connecting guests with the very best of local culture and immersing them in experiences that provide them with new perspective. From our thoughtful design, to our food and beverage offerings, to our immersive guest experiences made possible with local partners, we know that guests who arrive a visitor will depart a local.” Andaz will be a beautiful respite for visitors and there are also membership opportunities for those that live in the surrounding communities!

The Guest House

Gone is the traditional hotel “lobby.” Instead, Andaz features an open and inviting Guest House. When visitors step into the Guest House, they will be greeted with the same kind of warmth and sincerity as they would find entering a friend’s home. While their luggage is whisked away to one of Andaz’s 201 individual bungalow-style rooms, they will enjoy a welcome cocktail and beautiful art exhibits that rotate quarterly.

The interior design was orchestrated by Delawie Architects and includes floor-to-ceiling glass walls to highlight the unique and open style indoor restaurant and lounge spaces. Nitro coffee straight from the tap and creative cocktails will be available day and night, and the Guest House is designed to be a comfortable place to gather with friends over board games and coloring books, sit back with a book from the library’s eclectic collection, or take in the live art collections. It is expected that this special space will also become a favorite of locals looking for an inviting, eclectic and friendly atmosphere.

The spacious Guest House is tastefully done in rich Mangaris wood and also includes a wine room and chef’s table in the exhibition kitchen of Weft & Warp Art Bar + Kitchen. The Sonoran style cuisine will be presided over by Chef Adam Sheff (yes, that’s his real name), who was previously at the Park Hyatt New York and the Blue Duck Tavern in Washington D.C. Guests at Weft + Warp Art Bar & Kitchen will enjoy outstanding and unique cuisine and the atmosphere welcomes culinary discussion about the flavors and foods that continue to inspire, shape and elevate our Valley’s dining scene.

The Turquoise Pool

Just beyond the guest house is the beautiful “jewel” of the resort, the Turquoise Pool. Guests are invited to enjoy an eclectic and whimsical mix of refreshing craft cocktails, spiked punch bowls, icy popsicles and engaging games, toys and floats geared towards adults who are still kids-at-heart. Sunset hour is a poolside celebration with stunning Camelback Mountain as a picturesque backdrop.

The Bungalows

The rooms at Andaz are styled in such a manner that reflects an open and inviting “neighborhood” style atmosphere, punctuated by slow rolling slopes and terraces hugged with massive shade trees and a variety of flowers. All of the 201 guest rooms feature a terrace, and 76 of the rooms feature both a terrace and a patio. Socialize or have time for yourself, the choice is yours at Andaz.

The individual bungalows are orchestrated in mid-century modern décor conceived by EDG Interior Architecture + Design. Rooms boast pops of bright color and cultural patterns that draw inspiration from Alexander Girard and other renowned arts and designers from the 1950s and 1960s. Rooms range from 350-500 square feet and suites range from 550-1,800 square feet. Rooms and suites are clustered in groups of four to six units and some rooms feature private cabanas facing the Turquoise Pool. The light and open feeling of the Guest House at Andaz definitely spills over into the living space. The spacious rooms include skylights, comfortable amenities and plethora of art from the talents at Cattle Track. We were impressed by the shower… We’re pretty sure you could throw a decent sized party in there!

Communal areas features fire pits and telescopes, so guests can keep an eye on the nighttime skies. There is simply never a dull moment at Andaz and guests can choose how involved or secluded they would like to be during their stay.

“The Retreat” on the south side of Andaz boasts 23 guestrooms that are perfect for family or corporate getaways and provide the opportunity for a sense of community with an extra measure of exclusivity. The Retreat includes a pool and event and outdoor dining areas.

Andaz Studio Spaces

The resort’s event and meeting spaces are designed to engage attendees, encourage innovation and inspire ideas and collaboration. The resort will feature 10,000 square feet of indoor meeting and function spaces, including the 3,900 square foot Foundry Ballroom, the 2,300 square foot Easel and Mural Studios, and four additional working studios ranging in size from 650 to 1,600 square feet. The Studios will feature large windows and glass doors leading to outdoor patios and function spaces, designed to provide unique meeting break and social gathering experiences. More than 36,000 square feet of outdoor event and function spaces will provide extraordinary venues for weddings and groups and events of all sizes.

Andaz Salon

If you love art, or if you are just curious about the creative process, the Andaz Salon program will provide resort guests the opportunity to speak with local Cattle Track artists and craftsman while learning about painting, pottery and photography and the passions that fuel these creative minds! The nearby Cattle Track also has additional Andaz guest experiences available at its compound.

The Palo Verde Spa & Apothecary

The Palo Verde Spa & Apothecary spans 12,000 total square feet and includes seven treatment villas, nail and hair salon, eucalyptus steam rooms, and an outdoor relaxation lounge and private pool. An airy, sunlit apothecary boutique offers artisanal, natural remedies.

What struck most about Andaz is how it is effectively orchestrating the future of the Valley’s hotel industry at the exact intersection of hospitality, creative artistry, personal style and tradition.
