Helping Hands for Freedom Received Honor

By Lynette Carrington

Helping Hands for Freedom is an Arizona based nonprofit that provides an emergency assistance fund to help with a variety of expenses including housing to vehicle expenses, utilities and more. In addition to emergency grants, Helping Hands for Freedom offers a life needs program, sports and education camps, and legacy and life enrichment programs. Some of these life needs and enrichment programs for children include paying for tutoring, assisting with back-to-school needs, school camps, and day care for children of families suffering from PTSD. The organization was recently honored with The Lincoln Award.

The Lincoln Award is presented to the veterans’ advocacy organization that makes outstanding contributions and support of military families. “This award means so much to our charity,” says the CEO of Helping Hands for Freedom, Darin Fishburn. “Our mission is support for the families and children of the fallen, wounded and deployed. We focus on this example because freedom is not free. Our phone rings daily with the high price our heroes pay every day.”

Helping Hands for Freedom will also be recognized for the Lincoln Award honor at the Southwest Veterans Chamber of Commerce’s Inaugural Patriots Ball to be held 6-11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 at the SRP Pera Club located at 1 E. Continental Dr., Tempe. Patriots Ball tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased here. Event proceeds will fund Southwest Veterans Chamber of Commerce member programs, scholarships and veterans support programs in Arizona. Application as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization is pending.

Fishburn explains, “There are 237 military driven charities and we had the distinction of being singled out this year for their highest honor. Obviously it means a lot from this organization because their sole purpose is veterans and their families.”

Helping Hands for Freedom is gearing up for its holiday programs. Abuelo’s and Helping Hands for Freedom invite the community to lunch on them at the upscale Abuelo’s Restaurant of Chandler, located at 3440 W. Chandler Blvd, Chandler. The Abuelo family and Helping Hands for Freedom would like to honor the mother’s of our Nations heroes with this small token of appreciation. Seating will commence at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14. Please call (602) 267-2173 for more information.

“Zoolights for our heroes is a great event December 10 and back packs and our Holiday angel program finishes off the month,” Fishburn states. Zoolights participation is by invitation only.
