New Notre Dame Prep. Cross Country Coach to Help Runners Reach Potential

Scottsdale’s Notre Dame Preparatory High School has a new head cross country coach. Theology teacher Lisa Rawlings will guide the distance runners next year.

Rawlings coached the cross country team at Pope John Paul II Catholic High School in Huntsville, Alabama, prior to coming to Notre Dame Prep in 2015. Last season she served as NDP’s assistant cross country coach.

“What I love most about working with athletes is encouraging them to put in the hard work necessary to meet the goals they set for themselves,” Rawlings says. “Working with this particular team at NDP last season, I was in awe of their dedication.” The NDP runners committed to daily practices at5:30 a.m.

A seasoned distance runner herself, Rawlings has completed 17 marathons in 17 states. "My goal is to run a marathon in all 50 states," she states. Rawlings comes from a family of educators. "My mother always stressed the importance of education, and I think that is why four of us became teachers," she says of her six brothers and sisters.

NDP athletic director Monica Barrett made the announcement of Rawlings appointment on Tuesday, May 17. "I think NDP is blessed to have Lisa as a coach," she says. "She is amazing, positive and energetic."

Her coaching philosophy is to first, “Give God all the glory,” Rawlings explains. She expects good sportsmanship, work ethic, and integrity of all athletes so that they may use their God-given talents to reach their highest potential.
