Scottsdale ArtWalk by Lynette Carrington Each Thursday evening, Downtown Scottsdale springs to life in a unique way with Scottsdale ArtWalk. The November 5 ArtWalk was a momentous occasion for Art One Gallery, Inc. Celebrating 22 years in Scottsdale’s Arts District, the evening was marked with a large crowd of artists and art fans and gallery volunteers served up homemade tacos and salsa and a variety of wine samples. All of us with Scottsdale.com were thrilled to join Art One owner, Kraig Foote as he celebrated 22 years of helping student artists get their feet wet in the art gallery world. Art One Gallery is a part of the Scottsdale Gallery Association and specifically showcases art orchestrated in a variety of mediums that has been created by high school and college students. Foote says that students must have a “C” or better in their classes before showing and selling their work at Art One and must come in with their parents to meet him at the gallery. Foote graciously gives students and their parents a “schooling” on being involved in the art gallery world and some valid art and business tips. After viewing a selection of each student’s works of art, he may select some pieces to be included in the Art One Gallery for sale. It is a fantastic way for budding and emerging student artists to have their work seen by serious art collectors and make some money, too. But, Foote also knows his students must move on and graduate from Gallery One. “Once their pieces hit $1800, I try to ‘kick them out’ of here and on to another gallery,” Foote says with a grin. In specifically showcasing student art work, he is giving students an incredibly unique opportunity to experience what being a gallery featured artist is really like. The Scottsdale ArtWalk is an engaging and unique way to experience art in the historic Scottsdale Arts District. Every Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. the public is invited to the free event that takes place along Main Street from Scottsdale Road, west to Goldwater Boulevard and on Marshall Way north of Indian School Road to Fifth Avenue.
